Frequently Asked Questions – Dancing Queen Parties

Q: What does the Dancing Queen bring?

A: A Dancing Queen Parties merchandise prize for every child, make up or face paint, a speaker and music, all accessories required for the games, pom poms (Cheerleading parties) and a present for the birthday child.

Q: How should I structure the party in terms of a running order?

A: An example of a great way to structure an Option 2 party (1.5 hours with the DQ) is as follows:

2pm: Guests start to arrive.

2.15pm: Dancing Queen character (arrives to set up at 2.10pm) starts the “active” part of the party with the dancing and dance related games.

3.25pm: Party food and faces (either glitter face painting, 4-7yrs or glitter make up, 8yrs plus) The entertainer sets up a small application station close to where the children will be eating the party food. She takes one child away to the station and applies the face paint or make up while the rest of the children are enjoying the party food. This works well as it eliminates the children from standing in a queue waiting for their turn with nothing to do.

3.45pm: The Dancing Queen character concludes the faces and exits the party.

3.50pm: Birthday Cake and Happy Birthday song to the birthday child!

4pm: Party concludes and children are collected.

For an Option 1 party (1 hour with the DQ) is as follows:

2pm: Guests start to arrive

2.30pm: The Dancing Queen character (arrives to set up at 2.25pm) starts the “active” part of the party with the dancing and dance related games.

3.15pm: Party food and faces (either glitter face painting, 4-7yrs or glitter make up, 8yrs plus) The entertainer sets up a small application station close to where the children will be eating the party food. She takes one child away to the station and applies the face paint or make up while the rest of the children are enjoying the party food. This works well as it eliminates the children from standing in a queue waiting for their turn with nothing to do.

3.30pm: The Dancing Queen character concludes the faces and exits the party.

3.45pm: Birthday Cake and Happy Birthday song to the birthday child!

4pm: Party concludes and children are collected.

Q: What do I need to provide?

A: The party food, birthday cake, Lolly bags (we can supply these for an additional cost) and decorations. We bring everything we need to run captivating entertainment for you and may also ask you for some water to clean our paint brushes and a little table to elevate our speaker and props.

Q: How much space do I need for the party?

A: Most people choose an area in their home that has an open floor space. People often move furniture to create more room. We don’t require a huge area as we can adapt and choose games that are suitable depending on the size of the room.

Q: Can we host the party outside?

A: Yes, we host many parties in backyards and parks. We have our own cordless speakers which work well in parks and other spaces that don’t have power.

Q: Do you only host the parties in people’s homes?

A: No, we often host parties in community centres, function centres, restaurants, church halls, etc. A good idea is to visit your local city council and find out if there are halls or community centres in your area that you can hire. They are often relatively inexpensive.

Q: What is the youngest age that Dancing Queen parties are suitable for?

A: Generally, the majority of guests need to be 4 years or older. Our parties are not a show such as a magician or a clown where the children generally sit and watch. Dancing Queen parties are an interactive experience where the children learn dance moves in the style of the chosen Dancing Queen character. The games are tailored to suit various age groups.

Q: Are siblings counted in the guest numbers even if they don’t participate?

A: If you want the siblings to receive a prize and face painting/makeup/tattoo then yes, count them in the guests list. Should your final numbers exceed the Package number (by 1 or 2 guests), we charge an extra $5 per head.

Q: How can I let the parents of the guests know that I can’t have their other siblings attend the party without seeming rude?

A: It is a normal occurrence to write on the invitation that it is a “drop off” party – this way the parents know that they don’t have to stay and other children cannot be accommodated. You can also communicate with parents at the party to let them know that just the birthday child’s friends are participating in the activities.

Q: What is the role of the Dancing Queen entertainer?

A: The Dancing Queen has been invited to the party to entertain, coordinate the party activities and dancing and make the birthday child feel extra special at their birthday party. We ask that parents assist us in the event there are children displaying unruly behaviour.

Q: Do the children need to have attended dance classes to benefit from a Dancing Queen Party?

A: No, many guests at Dancing Queen parties’ don’t attend dance classes, but just love to dance anyway! We have parents tell us that their child is inspired to learn to dance after a Dancing Queen Party experience!

Q: Does a Dancing Queen Party cater for boys?

A: Yes, our games are non gender specific and we have prizes that boy guests love too. If you have a large number of male guests, we recommend inviting Honey Hip Hop as host. Her costume and character are less ‘feminine’ than Anna Ballerina and Charlee Cheerleader.

Q: How do we help to create an environment for a successful party?

A: There are a few things that can hinder the experience of a dance party. Party blowers / whistles can be too distracting for everyone especially when the children all blow them at once! Clear any food whilst the entertainment is happening to avoid children eating during the dancing and games. This will also mean that when it is time for the food, the children are more likely to want to eat! They will have worked up an appetite from all the physical activities! We recommend that you provide a separate area for any parents who stay at the party to mingle. This will ensure their noise level does not distract from the kid’s party environment.

Q: Is it ok to have other forms of entertainment at the party?

A: We believe that a Dancing Queen character is all you need at your party. Our parties are structured and are designed to fit the allocated duration of the package booked. However, should you wish to include other forms of entertainment at your party, please discuss with us. We will ensure that we work most effectively with other party vendors.
